PERFECTION
During May 2015, I was involved with a local production with my youth theatre. We were given the stimulus of Pandora’s Box, an ancient myth about someone opening the box and letting all the bad out to consume the world, the only thing that was left in the box was hope. We were then told choose a word that came out of the box, the word had to be negative so we chose ‘Perfection’. Ironically a word commonly associated much more positively. As a group we wanted to explore the increasing pressure on our society, of all genders and ages’ to look a certain way, which has been indoctrinated and forced upon us for centuries. I found the show to have a particular enormous impact on me, as someone who has always strived for perfection, it made me begin to re-evaluate my way of thinking and how I see myself.
I don’t think there’s an answer. We all have flaws and issues and it's those flaws that define us, no one should ever have the right to take that away from you. Everyone’s perfect in their own way. After all perfection is an illusion.
